VOLVO OCEAN RACE: Green Dragon aiming for podium

Ericsson 3 had increased its lead over sister ship Ericsson 4 to 80 miles – a gain of 30 miles overnight. PUMA was third at 160, also losing to the leader.

Volvo Ocean Race Kochi Stopover – A Great Success

“India is a safe destination” says Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Ambika Soni.
The gates opened and they came in the thousands, upwards of  50,000 every day and doubling that on a public holiday. All up, nearly a million people came to enjoy the 14 day stopover in Cochin the first Asian and Indian Stopover ever in the history of the Volvo Ocean Race.

Volvo Ocean Race ‘08 : RACE DAY @ KOCHI…

The gates opened and they came in the thousands. Some two hours later the queues to get into the race village are still snaking for hundreds of metres down the road.
When the time came for the sailors to be paraded through the crowds and down to the pontoons, it made for one of the most spectacular departure ceremonies this event has ever seen.

Volvo Ocean Race ‘08 Kochi – Its Party Time!!

The India Stopover of the Volvo Ocean Race has seen ten days of celebrations and activities, showcasing the artistic wealth of Kerala and India through a wide range of classical, folk and ritual art forms. India’s musical geniuses namely Fazal Qureshi, Mattanur Shankaran Kutty, Hariharan and Louis Banks mesmerized visitors with their grand musical ensemble at the Cochin Race Village last week.

KOCHI Volvo Ocean Race ‘08 : Nothing Short of a Miracle…

The 2nd Leg of the Volvo Ocean Race ‘08 is the first time in this prestigious and ultimate race that the race has visited Asia.
The Ericsson 4 team reached first (as earlier posted on this blog) amidst tough wind and water conditions where many boats succumbed damages while underway.

Volvo Ocean Race Stop Over – Kochi Preparations

Almost all the teams have arrived or soon will be arriving in Kochi (India) as the 2nd leg stopover of the 37,000 nautical mile ocean race. The 8 teams will be receiving a low key welcome due to the recent terror attacks that took place in India. Yachts that were to arrive on the 3rd Dec to the 13th of Dec have been provided with berthing facilities. Some of the families of the team members have already been in Kochi for over a week now.
