The State government is set to build a Marina for mooring luxury yachts and sailing boats in the vicinity around Chennai, according to Additional Chief Secretary and Chairperson and Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation, Susan Mathew. Speaking to Express on the sidelines of Consultative Meeting on Vision 2025 Industrial Development in Tamil Nadu on Monday, Mathew said the Marina will pave way for the growth of ship and yacht building industry.

The Middle East’s largest boat distributor, ART Marine, has reached a long-term agreement with Charterbay LLC to manage and operate the 300-berth Ghantoot Marina & Resort in Abu Dhabi.

Around twenty boats moored at Windermere Marina Village had sunk last month due to the floods.
The affected boats were all attached to fixed piers at the site.
Unlike boats tethered to floating buoys, they were unable to rise and fall with the changing water levels.
Some boats were fully submerged while others were sticking out the water.

A six-foot wave has wreaked havoc, sinking yachts and causing hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of damage at a UK marina.

The main cause for the incident at Maryport marina, Cumbria was reportedly the failure of lock gates.
The gates were recently refurbished at a cost of whooping £300,000. To oversee the rescue operation, Maryport coastguard were called in after boats were thrown against each other and sunk.
