The much awaited industry led IMF “Boating days” boat show which is  scheduled to be held from 29-31 January 2010 is currently facing some choppy waters. Almost 10 days away, the event which was scheduled to be held at the Cooperage grounds in Mumbai is now facing some government intervention restricting the much anticipated event from being held in what would ideally be the perfect venue for any boat show.

The 6th Goa International Boat Show has kicked off and is now open to public.Jet skis, speed boats, cruisers, luxury yachts, mega yachts,  chartering companies, boat building companies, navigation equipment sellers, fun boat sellers  right upto fishing tackle… its all under one roof.  International exhibitors from all over the country are participating in Goa’s biggest boat show. The muchawaited goa international boat 2010 show is finally here. The festivities have started in full swing and exhibitors are conducting their last minute checks.

From the smallest to the biggest companies, almost everyone is here competing at one of the biggest industry platform.

Merrill-Stevens faces more layoffs

Healthcare entrepreneur Hugh Westbrook’s plan was to spend $60 million to create 300 jobs by transforming the Merrill-Stevens boatyard into a megayacht hub.
Five years after buying it, Westbrook has laid off all but 28 employees and has shuttered the business, which has been in continuous operation on the Miami River since 1923.
Westbrook said the economic downturn has been brutal on the boating industry.
In the last two years, Merrill-Stevens has downsized from 160 employees to 28, which includes security and backroom people needed to keep the operation going.

New Year Eve – Parties On Yachts In Mumbai To Be HIT..!

Tipplers who wished to party on boats on New Year’s Eve will have to postpone their plans. A senior excise officer said that keeping in mind the constant security threat to Mumbai through sea, the Indian Navy has asked the Maharashtra state excise department to extend the decision they had taken last year after 26/11 and not issue liquor permits to boat owners this year too.

Damage Caused At Windermere Marina Village!

Around twenty boats moored at Windermere Marina Village had sunk last month due to the floods.
The affected boats were all attached to fixed piers at the site.
Unlike boats tethered to floating buoys, they were unable to rise and fall with the changing water levels.
Some boats were fully submerged while others were sticking out the water.

Tiger Woods Hides In His ‘Privacy’ Over Alleged Affairs

Tiger Woods is said to be preparing to go into hiding aboard his super-yacht to escape the storm of publicity over his alleged affairs. Staff were spotted readying the vessel, named Privacy, at a marina near his home in Florida in what is believed to be a bid to save his marriage. The £13.5 million, 155ft yacht, which wife Elin Nordegren once described as “a private respite for our family to relax and escape”, was spotted being loaded with supplies throughout yesterday.
