Mumbai Sailing Updates : April 2009

Over the last weekend…2 major events were undertaken under the burgee of the respected clubs and associations in Mumbai.

Both Match-Racing Nationals as well as Godrej Cup were exciting thanks to the strong winds and up-tight waters…which favored only the strong and smart sailors from the lots.

The finals of the match-racing event were a quick affair with the best teams of the past winning again.

THE Mumbai International Match Race 09 (ISAF Grade-II) STARTS OFF !

Today evening was the witness to the opening ceremony for the Mumbai International Match Race ‘09.
Amongst special guests were Chief Guest Colonel Bakshi from the Indian Navy, and Mahi Gill from the forthcoming movie ‘Dev D’ of UTV India Productions.

Speeches from Mahesh Ramachandran, Farrokh Tarapore and Aashim Mongia elaborated the importance of such events – that make India visible on the world sailing map.

MIMR 09 Qualifiers : Final Results

Due to ever-changing wind-conditions, the qualifiers spanned over 3 days.
Ultimately, the following teams occupied the top 4 slots :-
1) Mahesh Ramachandran’s Team
2) Farrokh Tarapore’s Team
3) Nitin Mongia’s Team
4) Aashim Mongia’s Team

Thanks to his commitment and experience of over many years in match-racing, Mahesh has continually been able to bring home winning positions in tournaments of past few years.

International Boating Awards 08 – Winners Announced !!

The Boat India Awards 08 show which took place in Kochi immediately after the boat show has recently announced the winners of the many categories which included best boating media, best yachting video, marina of the year etc etc.

Volvo Ocean Race ‘08 Kochi – Its Party Time!!

The India Stopover of the Volvo Ocean Race has seen ten days of celebrations and activities, showcasing the artistic wealth of Kerala and India through a wide range of classical, folk and ritual art forms. India’s musical geniuses namely Fazal Qureshi, Mattanur Shankaran Kutty, Hariharan and Louis Banks mesmerized visitors with their grand musical ensemble at the Cochin Race Village last week.
