The Indian international regatta – 1st Nov 09 – Chennai
India International Regatta will be held annually in October – November at Chennai, each year and will bring together competitors and general public a complete ‘Celebration of Sailing’.
About the event -
The event commencing from 1stN0v 09 – 8th Nov 09 promises to be an annual event backed by the government of Indian and Tamil Nadu.
Being conducted in Chennai, the Indian international regatta plans to attract
Through the conduct of events, India International Regatta which is part funded by Government of India and Government of Tamil Nadu aims to :
- promote interest in preservation and conservation of our environment and natural resources.
- promote sailing as a healthy and enjoyable sport for pleasure and competition for everyone for life.
- bring international and interstate sailors to Chennai.
- highlight and promote Chennai as the world class sailing destination.
- support the development and growth of sailing classes, Yacht Clubs and sailors.
The India International Regatta will provide the greater Indian sailing community, in particular youth sailors, with a terrific opportunity to learn and develop into future World Champions. By conducting professionally run regattas, bringing together many of the World’s best sailors, with support programs and coaching, excellent facilities and infrastructure we are helping Indian sailors become even faster, more professional and better experienced to take on the world.
The Indian regatta has received good support from many sponsors some of which include the Volvo group (title sponsor), Tata Tele services, Indian Oil Corporation, Coca Cola. Other sponsors like Jet airways have provided support by offering airline tickets at a highly discounted rate for sailors.
Its probably one of the few Indian sailing events in the recent times that has received such strong support equally from sponsors as well as the media. With ET, Chennai times, 104.8fm (Chennai) providing a advertising platform for the event. We believe the success and reach of this event (commercially) will encourage participation by other companies in the Indian sailing industry
