A New Boat Show Proposed For Mumbai In Feb 2010- IMF

The Indian Marine Federation (IMF) is in the advanced stages of planning for a three-day promotional event in Mumbai next year to stimulate interest in leisure boating in India.

The proposed dates for the event are February 5, 2010 for a trade networking forum and February 6-7 for the boat show. A venue for the event has yet to be chosen, but plans are for a central Mumbai location. Sponsors for both the conference and the boat show will be confirmed shortly.

Chairman of the IMF, Joe Nejedly says: “The aim of the IMF is to promote boating with a quality event that is owned and run solely for the benefit of the industry. Our objectives for the conference will be to create awareness of the benefits that leisure boating — including waterside developments and marinas — can bring to the Indian economy.”

The boating market in India is reported to have held up well in 2009 in line with the stock and real estate markets, which have recovered strongly from the 2008 global downturn. A key factor for the growth of leisure boating India is the creation of a marina network, an issue that the trade forum intends to actively address. Some 70 per cent of the potential leisure boat buyers in India are estimated to be located in Mumbai, the commercial capital of the country.

The event will be organised for the IMF by Mike Derrett Marine (MDM), a consultancy business based in the UK and operating exclusively in the Gulf and Asia, specialising in the marine leisure industry with experience of organising conferences and exhibitions in the marine leisure industry in the region. Successful exhibitions and conferences with MDM involvement include the Dubai International Boat Show, Gulf Boating Conference, Boat Tech China Conference and the Korea International Marine Festival 2008 and 2009.

Previous to the proposed boat show, Mumbai has been holding one boat show every year “The Mumbai International Boat show” It was held In Feb 2009 and is already slated to be held in Feb 2010. The new proposed boat show has probably been strategically lined up before the “Mumbai International Boat Show” in order to drive in more crowd.
