Dilip Donde To Become 1st Indian To Sail Solo Around The World
When Commander Dilip Donde, 41, of the Indian Navy casts away on August 15 on a journey estimated to take 9 months, he will be the first Indian to be making a bid to enter the elite club of solo circumnavigators.
The yacht received a rousing welcome at the Naval dockyard and Donde showing the interiors.

The 56-ft yacht is indigenously made and fitted with state-of-the-art navigation & communication equipment. Nicknamed ‘Mhadei’ after the ancient name of the river Mandovi in Goa, the yacht would travel 21,600 nautical miles to and from Mumbai to Freemantle (Australia), Christ Church (New Zealand), Port Stanley, and Cape Town (South Africa).
Costing Rs6.5 crore, Project Sagar Parirkrama was the brainchild of former western naval commanding officer Manohar Awati. When asked how he would spend his time as he traverses the world’s oceans all alone, Donde said that if the weather conditions permitted, he would catch up on a novel. “When I need to sleep, the yacht will be on auto-pilot,” he said.
