Dee Caffari to become first woman to sail both ways around the world!!
Sailors circumnavigating the globe has been done before, it is not to often that one hears of a woman sailor navigating the earth and when you do you know that they are in it for real. British origin Dee Caffari a veteran woman sailor who holds a world record for sailing the globe single handedly, non stop on her 60ft yacht around the world the ‘wrong way’in May 2006 will this time look to brake a world record by circumnavigating the world twice that too both ways.
Ok now for those who may be a little confused on the ‘both ways’ bit, you would probably want to know that there are two ways to circle the earth.
The ‘wrong’ way involves sailing against the prevailing winds and currents, going round Cape Horn first.
The solo skipper, sponsored by the world¹s fifth largest insurance group Aviva since her first world record voyage in 2005/06, will start the Vendée Globe yacht race at 12:02 (GMT) on Sunday 9 November from Les Sables d’Olonne, France. The Vendée Globe, often known as the Everest of the Seas, is an extreme 27,000-mile challenge through the Atlantic and the notorious Southern Ocean.

Her journey will take her down the Atlantic, and round the Cape of Good Hope. She will then traverse the Southern Ocean, before returning to France via Cape Horn at the southern tip of South America.
Caffari said from the dockside in Les Sables d’Olonne:
On Sunday, I’ll set sail against the best solo sailors in the world in my attempt to set a second world record. My boat Aviva has been prepared well and I’ve trained hard both physically and mentally to be in the best shape to take on this gruelling race. My number one goal is to bring Aviva home safely and sail into the history books again. The Vendée Globe is a notoriously tough and challenging race with history proving 40% of the fleet will fail to make the finish line but I¹m feeling confident I can complete the double world first.

Below is a video of Dee Caffari at the launch of the new Aviva sailing yacht in Jan 08.
