Few months back the Bendigo Yacht Club in Australia was left in ashes when a major fire broke down at the main storage shed of the club due to some electrical fault. 20 sail boats, two large rescue craft, together with a smaller inflatable rescue boats used for rescue work on Lake Eppalock and training boats for children were destroyed completely.

This was a add on blow to the members of the sailing club as the sailing club was forced to halt sailing on the lake two years ago because of the low water levels. One of the prestigious member of the club is Glenn Ashby who is a Olympic gold medal contender. When everyone thought nothing could go wrong the fine burnt down everyone’s hope.

But that didn’t break down the spirit of the people. Soon the lake started filling up and people started sailing. At present lake they sail in i.e Lake Eppalock, is at just seven percent of its capacity! Winter run-off combined with inflows from the Superpipe have raised the lake to a level where it is just able to be used. The water level is good enough for small sail boats but still is shallow for big catamarans.

Every weekend people gather up and go out sailing. Its good to see that after 2 years of not being able to sail and the club house caught fire the members and sailors have fought hard and kept their sailing spirit high!
