ISAF Nations Cup : Results and Highlights – FINAL DAY
Final Day…and let’s have the results first….
1) Nitin Mongia’s team
2) Mahesh Ramchandran’s team
3) Farokh Tarapore’s team
4) Aashim Mongia’s team
Aashim Mongia, being the lead-of-the-pack in the Round Robins chose Mahesh as his opponent for the Semi-Finals. It was a very close call right from the beginning and Mahesh did take the opportunity to stamp his authority as the highest-ranked match-racing sailor in the country by beating Aashim’s team.

In the other semi-final Nitin Mongia’s team beat Farokh Tarapore’s team in a best of 3 semi-final…which set the proceedings for the rest of the day.
Between the teams of Aashim and Farokh, the fight for 3rd place ended with Farokh’s team winning very comprehensively.
Due to wind conditions there was a continuous change in the position of the Marks and the length of the course, and only when the afternoon breeze set in at 330pm, were we able to have the best of 5 competition for the first spot.

Nitin’s team took the lead and in their final race for victory put up a splendid show which was a wonderful display of talent and grit. Both the teams strategies and courses were entirely different in order to cope up with the difficult wind conditions and the race to the finish line was literally bow-to-bow….with the committee vessel awarding victory of the race and hence the championship to Nitin’s team.
There was an appeal from Mahesh’s team which if accepted would likely have to be settled through a re-race, and then the 2 skippers were called on to the umpire’s boat where their case was adjourned and the victory was confirmed to Nitin.

Nitin’s team was ecstatic and the event had come to an end on a close but good note…with the skippers shaking hands as a gesture of accepting a fair result.
One door closes in the manner of this Match-Racing tournament….but then another door, the Mumbai International Match Race ‘08 will open in December…make sure you are on the waters where the exciting will be multiplied thanks to the participation of 8 of the the top 50 teams in the world already confirming their participation.
