Here are the probable reasons for such catastrophes –

Research – not enough research can be fatal at times when the boat and the crew are entering an un-chartered territory for the 1^st time. Research could include – assessing the weather, climate conditions, water and tide conditions, route map, boating scenario etc.

Weather – Foul weather conditions like storm which at times leaves the boat to the mercy of the nature and is then out of control from any known technological device or human expertise. It could just leave you berthed on the land stranded like a fish without water.

For boats which are not tech equipped face the problem of fog wherein everything is blurred which can cause a crash against the rocks, creates contact with land, collide with other boats.

Malfunctioning of controls – Every good captain also needs an equally good equipment to support him to make the voyage successful. Improper or faulty equipment can create uncertainty in the minds of the captain and the crew. Some examples are – no detection of the draft, improper navigation route, uncertain approaching weather etc.

Negligence of captain – carelessness and are one of the most common reasons for boat crashes. Experience of the captain is also of key importance as an amateur would not be in the position to maneuver the boat in international waters. A drink or two can do wonders .

Some other reasons could also include bad management while lifting the yacht, transportation of the boat, other boats colliding with the boat. In the video one can also see a CAR being collided against the boat.
